On an island the size of the Isle of Wight, the scenery plunges from ridges of ancient rainforest down to palm-fringed Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean beaches, crossing colourful towns, copious kaleidoscopes of birdlife and a profusion of tropical flora. The islanders give a warm and authentic welcome, not dampened by any of the over-commercialisation of more touristy Caribbean destinations. It remains unpolished, and all the better for it.
